Thanks for stopping by! My name is Sharon Middup, former dance mom and the founder of The Original Rac N Roll. Being a dance mom to an incredibly messy and high-stressed daughter for over 15 years, I created Rac N Roll to simplify our lives, and the lives of dancers near and far.
When you sign up for competitive dance, nobody really tells you what to expect. Walking through the doors of any competition, you’re unveiled to a world you never knew existed—high-strung dancers travelling in packs of pink tutus and the sound of high-pitched squeals coming from every angle. Whether you’re a beginner, or you’ve been doing this for years, it’s an extremely overwhelming experience. Not to mention, when you’re directed to your designated “change room” and you quickly learn that there is not one compartment, chair or rack in sight to place your things.
My daughter Lauren was a competitive dancer participating in 8 dances, which meant 8 costumes and 8 variations of corresponding accessories. Being a dance mom myself, I felt the stress of staying organized first hand and knew there needed to be a better way to handle all of this—and so, Rac N Roll was born!
Believe it or not, the idea of Rac N Roll came to me as a vision while sitting on my deck at home. It was one of those “aha” moments that came so quickly, I immediately ran to the nearest piece of paper to write it all down.
From this moment on, my purpose was clear. I wanted create a situation that would alleviate the stress of dance life and all of the things that came along with it. With the help of family, friends and dance community—and several roadblocks along the way— I successfully designed the ORIGINAL competitive dance bag with a rack and shared Rac N Roll with the world. Over 10 years later, I can only hope that we have made dance life that much more simple!
